Syphilis
- dangerous in pregnancy
- should be tested
- higher rates in indigenous and TSI
- early treatment including partners - reduce risk to newborn
- highly infectious - oral vaginal anal sex
- ulcers sores rash, fever, swollen glands, hair loss, general tiredness
- miscarriage, stillbirth, fetal loss preterm birth, neonatal death
- deformed bones, low blood count, enlarged liver or spleen yellowing of skin, brain & nerve problems, blindness, deafness in newborn
- treatable with penicillin
