Haemorrhoids
What:
- Swollen, enlarged veins around anus - 25-35% women
- bleeding, painful bowel movements
- anal pain & itching
Not:
- exclude other causes of bleeding
- malformations
- differential diagnosis
Why/How:
- uterus pressure
- veinous stasis from progesterone
- constipation - secondary cause
Advice:
This may only be if they’re sore and uncomfortable
- avoid constipation - diet
- stool softeners
- medication - local anaesthetic
- check pharmacist
- midwives need to bring up conversation - woman may not even when suffering
- Haemorrhoids may be improved by increasing fibre in the diet and drinking plenty of water; standard haemorrhoid creams can be considered if symptoms continue
This may only be if they’re sore and uncomfortable
- 1 onion
- 1 whole bulb garlic
- 1 fennel
- Large or 2 handful nettle
- Large or 2 handful calendular
- Boil up in huge pan water for an hour
- Don’t drain (sieve as use) keep refrigerated
- This is for sitz baths
